We are rooted in Christ, with roots in Pasadena.
In 1884 Jesus plants a gospel seed in Pasadena and nourishes it with living waters

The seed sprouts, and puts down a vertical taproot of love of God, our root in Christ, which gives us strength and is fed by the water of life

The plant continues growing and puts out lateral roots of love of neighbor, our roots in Pasadena, which give us stability and are seen in our Core Value roots of community of faith, love, service, spirituality, and growth.

Our heartwood, the dynamic center of our life together, is that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of the living God, our Lord and Savior.

Integrally connected to and springing from that heartwood are our Bedrock Belief branches: God is always faithful and forgiving; the fullness of Life is found in a relationship with God; within the Church faith is nurtured, growth occurs, and lives are transformed; the Bible is God's word to us, giving us direction; in Baptism we die and rise to new life, and in weekly Communion we experience the risen Christ. Within those branches the birds of the air build their nests, and underneath the creatures of the forest find shelter and safety.

Upon those branches are leaves for the healing of the nations, which in following the path of the Son receive the light of life. The blossoms spread in every place the fragrance of life, the aroma of Christ, which comes from knowing Jesus.

God transformed a cross into a Tree of Life, which is our Motivating Vision. Upon this Tree of Life are twelve different kinds of fruit: love; joy; peace; patience; compassion; goodness; faithfulness; humility; self-control; truthfulness; hope; justice. The first 9 fruits come from Galatians 5:22, the last 3 are the most-attested in other parts of Scripture. Other lesser fruits include eternal life; knowledge of God/wisdom; good work; praise to God; and finally discipleship, which is the sum of all fruits. These fruits mark our lives individually and as a church.

Out of the ground the Lord God made to grow every tree that is pleasant to the sight and good for food, the tree of life also in the midst of the garden. . .Genesis 2:9

Then the Lord God said, "See, the man has become like one of us, knowing good and evil, and now, he might reach out his hand and take also from the tree of life, and eat, and live forever. "He drove out the man; and at the east of the Garden of Eden he placed the cherubim, and a sword flaming and turning to guard the way to the tree of life." Genesis 3:22, 24

They shall take root downward and bear fruit upward. . . Isaiah 37:31

There was a tree at the center of the earth, and its height was great. The tree grew great and strong, its top reached to heaven, and it was visible to the ends of the whole earth. Its foliage was beautiful, its fruit abundant, and it provided food for all. The animals of the field found shade under it, the birds of the air nested in its branches, and from it all living beings were fed.
Daniel 4:10b-12

Thanks be to God, who in Christ always lead us in triumphal procession, and through us spreads in every place the fragrance that comes from knowing him. For we are the aroma of Christ to God among those who are being saved and among those who are perishing; to the one a fragrance from death to death, to the other a fragrance from life to life. 2 Corinthians 2:14-16

To everyone who conquers, I will give permission to eat from the tree of life that is in the paradise of God. Revelation 2:7

Then the angel showed me the river of the water of life, bright as crystal, flowing from the throne of God and of the Lamb through the middle of the street of the city. On either side of the river is the tree of life with its twelve kinds of fruit, producing its fruit each month, and the leaves of the tree are for the healing of the nations.
Revelation 22:2

Blessed are those who wash their robes, so that they will have the right to the tree of life and may enter the city by the gates.
Revelation 22:14
